PATRICK SWEANY (www.patricksweany.com), one of the instructors at Jorma Kaukonen's (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna) FUR PEACE RANCH Guitar Camp, will be performing in an acoustic storytelling series, "Hear 'Em at The Comm", on Saturday, APRIL 12, 2008. Prior to the show, he will conduct a GUITAR WORKSHOP, which is described below, in his OWN words...
“In my workshop, I will break down a few key stylistic elements of rural and urban blues music of the early to mid 20th Century. I will explore and explain these elements and how affect the music we hear today.
I will also give an overview of early rural guitar/music styles of the United States and how those were adapted and changed after the dawn of recorded music and electric instruments. I will then try to explain why this is so exciting that people like me dedicate their whole lives to these sounds.
Depending on the amount of prospective guitar students, I could turn it more toward guitar instruction of these elements and styles. I, of course, will be very careful as to not make it a complete, shall we say, "guitar nerd blues freakout" and make it interesting to non musicians. Unless, of course, everyone wants that to happen, and we will "guitar nerd" the day away. I want it to be entertaining, as well as informative.
I think it's important for folks who might be interested in this kind of music, who feel they don't know enough about it to even know where to start, this is the program for you.”
